Our Work
Bradford University
Working through a Glasgow based design agency, Signs Express (Glasgow) were commissioned to make exciting new signage improvements to a new building at the University of Bradford.
In 2006 The University of Bradford set up a project to bring together student transactions into one new central purpose built location in the new Atrium in the main building on campus. The new one stop shop facility was named The Hub. In place of the separate reception desks the objective was to establish a single state of the art Front of House reception desk manned by specialist staff and supported by colleagues from relevant teams in an adjacent Back Office area. The design brief given to Nomad (a Glasgow design company) for the graphics was to create a design that could bring together 3 different areas within the space in a cohesive way acting as a thread through the designs and a recognisable style. This included: • A design for the light boxes in the Atrium Coffee Shop and Print Centre • A design for the light boxes and front of house desk for The Hub itself. • A design for the meeting rooms that would be attractive but also give some privacy. Nomad's Scheme for Atrium Project 'Our aim throughout the Atrium project has been to create an inspiring and adaptable space that reflects the culture of the University and the students. The architecture of the Atrium creates a unique place that seems to bring the outside inside. As we developed the scheme, other influences were absorbed into the concept such as the multi-cultural nature of the student body and the industrial heritage of Bradford. Our design response to these elements was to combine organic yet functional forms, pattern and a sense of the outdoors and this is particularly prevalent in the design of the illustrative graphics.'
