Our Work
Blackpool & Fylde College
When a project blends design, education, and innovation, you know it’s going to be special. That’s exactly what happened when Signs Express (Glasgow) was commissioned, through a leading design consultancy, to deliver the interior signage for The Loop, a modern Learning Resource Centre at Blackpool & The Fylde College.

The Brief
The new facility wasn’t just another library, it was a hub for digital learning, collaboration, and creativity. The college wanted it to feel fresh, engaging and relevant to students of all ages, a place that inspired people to return.
The design consultancy had developed a bold, contemporary concept that perfectly captured that energy. The name “The Loop” said it all. A place where people could connect, share knowledge, and stay in the loop.
Our role at Signs Express Glasgow was to take that vision and make it real through high-quality, precision signage that felt part of the architecture rather than something simply placed on it.
The client was clear from the outset: No plain printed panels. No generic fixings. No flat graphics glued to PVC.
They wanted something that would integrate with the interior design, letting the colours, textures and shapes of the painted walls come through. The signage had to complement the environment instead of cover it up.
On top of that, the branding required very specific Pantone colours to match the newly refurbished interiors. Every shade had to align perfectly with the college’s visual identity.

The Challenge
The largest wall graphic was over 12.3 metres wide and 1 metre high, running across a key feature wall in the Learning Resource Centre. With artwork of that scale, accuracy and legibility were crucial.
This wasn’t a simple “print-and-apply” job. The graphics were designed to interact with the wall — using negative space so that the painted background formed part of the design. That meant every cut, every letter, and every colour overlap had to be exact.

Our Solution
Working closely with the design consultancy, our production team at Signs Express Glasgow developed a detailed workflow to ensure total accuracy from concept through to installation.
We started by digitally printing the required Pantone colours onto premium-grade vinyl, then computer-cut the graphics to allow the wall colour to show through where required. This layering created a crisp, contemporary look that felt integrated with the room’s design.
To make installation smooth and precise, we split the artwork into multiple files, adding a part bleed on adjoining sections so the colours flowed seamlessly once fitted. Each section also included a dedicated cut layer to guide alignment during installation — a small but vital detail that ensured every line and letter sat perfectly straight across the entire 12-metre span.
Our installation team worked methodically, aligning each section by hand and double-checking spacing against the digital layout plan. Because of the size and complexity, the fitting was approached in stages to maintain consistency.
The result was a flawless finish — no visible joins, no misalignment, and no distortion of colour or text. The final wall graphics looked as though they had been painted directly onto the surface, perfectly balancing practicality, legibility and design flair.

Outcome
The finished space was exactly what the client had envisioned. A modern, welcoming environment that breaks away from the traditional idea of a library.
“You’re not in a library; you’re in The Loop,” became more than just a slogan. The branding and signage together created a sense of place and identity that students could relate to.
By combining precision printing, expert craftsmanship, and design sensitivity, Signs Express (Glasgow) helped deliver a project that was both functional and full of character — signage that not only guides but inspires.
