Our Work
Blackpool & Fylde College
Commissioned through a design consultancy, Signs Express (Glasgow) were delighted to work on signage for a new resource centre at Blackpool & The Fylde college.
This welcoming modern Learning Resource Centre at Blackpool & The Fylde Library needed relevant, cool branding, drawn directly from the facility's content and purpose. The design solution helped the brand appeal strongly to the intended market and delivered the message that here was a facility with a difference. You're not in a library, you're in The Loop. And everyone likes being in the loop. In essence Blackpool & The Fylde Library was launching a modern Learning Resource Centre and the mood had to be fresh, pleasant, relevant and conducive to return visits. The amenity had to be cool to suit its intended audience, without being precious about it. Legibility and practicality are of course paramount in any sort of learning establishment, but these days you really have to have style and character, and the answer is seldom as easy as the austere old concept of form following function. 'The Loop' - The client specifically stated they did not want the graphics printed, applied to PVC panels and fixed to the walls. They requested the graphics be printed and cut to enable the coloured painted walls to show through. To match the new interior design specific pantone colours had to be printed. The largest wall area was 12,300mm wide x 1000mm high. For ease of fitting the artwork was designed to digitally print the pantone colours and computer cut for complete accuracy. The artwork for each of the large walls was split into different files and a part bleed on adjoining colours was created. An outside cut shape was created on a separate layer. This process also aided the fitting team to ensure all the lines and text were accurately spaced when applied to the walls and of course straight!
