Signs Express (Lancaster) Owner, Thomas Somers, is taking on the phenomenal 965-mile feat of the Land's End to John O'Groats challenge (officially named 'LeJog') on just his bike! Averaging at just over 100 miles a day, the organised ride, which attracts hundreds of people each year, will take 9 days to complete.
Organised by Deloitte Ride Across Britain, Thomas is hoping to raise both money and awareness for The British Paralympic Team to help raise funds for them to compete in the 2016 Rio Olympics. Deloitte make the ride as smooth as possible by making sure that each cyclist's tent, equipment and a hot meal is ready for them at base camp after each gruelling day. With medics on hand to help with any unforeseen injuries and experienced chaperons to accompany the cyclists throughout their journey from the most southern part of the UK to the most Northern, this ride encourages cyclists of any skill level to participate to create wonderful memories and forge lifelong friendships. Thomas is keen to get as much exposure as possible in order to maximise the funds he can raise; he comments: 'I've already started training to make sure I am in top-shape come September. My first 100 mile ride, which took me from Lancaster over Wrynose Pass in the Lake District and back to Lancaster, took me just shy of 9.5 hours. I'm hoping as the training progresses to improve this time, but ultimately I'm just very excited to not only be taking part in such a magnificent adventure, but also to raise money to support the Paralympic Team in the 2016 Olympics.'
