A Grand Project for Signs Express (Birmingham SW)
Signs Express (Birmingham SW) recently finished a gigantic project for Grand Central, the new 450,000 sq. foot, £150 million retail development, which is literally on top of the £600 million Birmingham New Street Station Gateway.
The Grand Central development has completely renovated the old Palisades shopping centre, so it now boasts the largest John Lewis outside of London, warranting its new name of Grand Central. Grand Central provides 200,000 sq. foot of retail space for over 40 premium fashion and lifestyle shops and more than 20 new concept cafes and restaurants. This new centre will enhance Birmingham's retail landscape bringing a mix of unrivalled premium fashion and quality high street brands to the heart of the city. Signs Express (Birmingham SW) has assisted in signposting the development for visitors and residents by creating three humongous roof mounted LED illuminated signs reading 'GRAND CENTRAL', which look out over the North, East and West of Birmingham's cityscape. For this project, the Signs Express team worked with the external framework contractors Simco and Network Rail, to provide and install the development's impressive, high-profile exterior signage. Signs Express (Birmingham SW) specified and project managed the main roof signage element of the build, which took 18 months of co-operation with all companies involved in the build of the development in order to assist with the formation and revision of architectural drawings, material specification and project planning. Signs Express (Birmingham SW) provided the project with three signs, two of which were 16.5 metres wide and 1.75 metres tall and one sign which was 11 metres wide and 1.1 metres high. Made from individually installed, built-up brushed stainless steel letters with welded face rims holding acrylic faces, the signs certainly leave an impression The letter's acrylic faces were cleverly covered with a special day/night vinyl that provides a dark daytime face and a contrasting illuminated light face at night. These bespoke letters were fixed to internally and externally galvanised and silver powder coated fabricated framework with lifting eyes to enable the large letters to be craned into place and secured to the building's framework, which was specifically crafted to accommodate the signage. The result has been these fantastic signs that can be seen by day or night from afar and herald a warm welcome to everyone out for a touch of retail therapy. Signs Express (Birmingham SW) is ideally located in Bromsgrove with excellent access to the West Midlands and Worcestershire via the M5 and M42 and they are about to celebrate their 10 year anniversary of supplying signs of all sizes to the region.
